CGMatter shares some great particle simulations using two free Blender add-ons.

In this blender demo I show you some advanced physics simulations made with molecular particles and cubesurfer (cloth, destruction, sand, ropes, etc). Pick up these updated addons here:

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Thanks for the info and updates!
    Managed to install Molecular for Blender 2.8. But when trying to activate the Cubesurfer in Blender's preferences, I get the following error;
    ModuleNotFoundError: No Module named CubeSurfer.
    Tried with Blender 2.8 and 2.81.
    (When trying to install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015 I get the message that there is a newer version is installed.)

    Any idea what it is?

      • Eh yes, I wrote that article. For those who encounter the same issue: go to the folder where all your addons are installed (On Windows: appdata, roaming, etc). Then change the folder name for the CubeSurfer addon to: cubesurfer (No capitals).
        Also, at the moment the cubesurfer doesn't make a full surface: faces are missing. See also notes on Github. But if you are creative, you can make advantage of it, for example use wireframe modifier.

  2. wow, it looks really nice. Is the cloth sim calculated in cpu or gpu? if cpu, will it benefit linearly if I get a 64 core ryzen?

    Is there a way to add items to an isosurface object via script? The "+" button is saying "undocumented operator". But there must be a way to code it?

    Thanks
