We've just finished the 10th 3Dami film school. 3Dami is a computing camp where we mix computer science, art and media. With a healthy dose of computational thinking. UCL again provided the location and access to a 2000 node render farm, we were also supported by screenskills, BlueZoo, TheMill and Dneg. 3D animation/vfx remains one of the few areas of digital creativity where you still need some serious hardware to get making. Everything made by the students aged 13-18 in 7 days (except for some sounds and textures). We used 2.79 and next year we will be shifting to 2.8x
If you tweet check out @3Dami. If you want to start making your own films check out our children friendly tutorials (2.80 tutorials coming very soon). To find out more about 3Dami, read this.
