In a stroke of bad luck, Pablo's laptop got stolen yesterday:
So, my backpack got stolen with my laptop, camera, passport + a few other things :(
Been in Brazil, Venezuela, México, Argentina, all fine. Got stolen in the US, just bad luck. The most amazing thing was being inside of a real American police station in Skid Row, LA. Unreal.
Won't be making videos for the time being. Sorry.
But SIGGRAPH being SIGGRAPH, something wonderful happened next:

Sorry Pablo!! It's SO INCREDIBLY INFURIATING when people take stuff that isn't theirs. UGH!!! Thieves are freakin' low-life people. Maybe not even people . . . :(

Hardware is replaceable? But what about the personal things? Such as family Fotos, important documents, videos of your loved ones, or most importantly all the .blend files?
have you stored it all in a cloud?
There is NO excuses for not having a backup setup.
Sounds harsh maybe, but digital files are quite vulnerable to loss.
Always be sure to have some form of backup running, or link to Onedrive, Google Drive, Dropbox or iCloud. Be sure, be safe wth your files.
But theft is always a pain. Hardware is replaceable, but it's more the feeling of being personally assaulted in a away.
Massive gesture of Boxx and all people involved, hope that will easy the pain a bit for Pablo.

Sorry to hear that, I hope the thieves have a change of heart and at least turn in you passport. Good On BOXX for donating the laptop! Blender Brings out the best in everybody. :)

Sorry to hear that, the passport more than anything... it's like what Shakespeare said about a man's reputation: If you take it, you are not enriched, but he is left poor indeed. I hope they turn it in. Having met Pablo briefly at SIGGRAPH, he's about the nicest guy you'll ever find so I'm glad he got a new laptop.
I really hope that the Blender dev team considers if they need to change repository keys and passwords now. If he had access to them from that laptop and the drive wasn't encrypted, they should change those immediately.
GDPR waiting to happen? Hope not for the insitute?
But these guys know what they're doing, so probably OK.
