Laser Cowboy Workflow

6

Alex Treviño describes the creation of his incredible 'Laser Cowboy'. His workflow includes Blender 2.79 and 2.80 and Substance Painter, and he shares his files on Gumroad at the end of the article (The clay-only scene is free). It's an incredible read, I highly recommend you grab a cup of coffee and sit down to read this one!

Alex writes:

I fell in love with the illustration “Laser Cowboy” from the first moment I saw it, the mix of humour and seriousness made me choose this project. The goal was to make the scene feel like a Stop-motion, using references like Laika Studio, Wes Anderson and Tim Burton. I Used the version of Blender 2.79 in most of the stages, and with the experimental version used the new materials; For hair Principled Hair BSDF and Principled Volume BSDF for the smoke. It was rendered with CPU + GPU, and finally translate the workflow to Blender 2.80, getting ready for the release of the final version.

I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

First had a quick peak on my phone. Now im checking the article!!! SIMPLY WOW! What a sweet read and so well documented. Alex thanks a lot for taking the time and showing this awesome art piece and how it was made!
I thought i recognized this style. I believe ive seen some illustrations before from Gaspard Sumeire.

Transferring 2d to 3d isnt always done perfect, but you nailed and made the 2d even better in 3d i think!!! Has this art piece been in the top bar yet?! I think i missed it otherwise
