so basically this is useless because it is the same as smooth in edit mode..
ctrl + V to bring up the vertex menu, select Smooth Vertices, then hold down shift + R
This is not the same as smooth vertex. Relax tries to average out the distances between vertices while trying to maintain the overall form of the object. Vertex smooth ignores the object's form by smoothing things over. If you are used to zbrush, think of the difference between using smooth by holding down shift vs the smooth you get from releasing shift as you smooth. It works like that. Neither redundant nor useless.
