Sorry but that doesn't look smart, yet it looks very blenderish
While I'm not sure why there's so much destruction/ vertex breakage going on, I do know this same effect can be done with UV Project https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/modeling/modifiers/modify/uv_project.html , I created a 5 minute demonstration on how to use the UV Project modifier with Eevee here:
