In this video, I show how to animate the random flickering of a starry night sky starting using free resources and only the shader nodes! It works with Blender 2.8 EEVEE and Cycles (apart from some minor differences).

The same technique can be used to recreate intermittent Christmas or neon lights and why not, fireflies!
