Headless Mining Card (GPU 106-100) as a Graphics Cards

Apparently you can use a $75 crypto mining GPU without a video output by connecting it to your main GPU and using a modified driver!

So,

The GP106-100, a 6gb geforce GTX 1060 without the display ports, can be used within your system apparently, according to Linus Tech Tips.

  1. I watched these videos when they were first uploaded, and I'm not sure how well they work with cycles, however I just bought 2 of them so I will update when I get them working on my linux render server.

    • Oh my god buy like 5 of these right now!

It was so easy to set up, especially if you already have a graphics card. I put one of these next to my GTX 1070 and I didn't have to do any hacking or ANYTHING! There was an error the first time I started my computer after installing, but after a reboot everything worked fine, all I had to do was check the box to enable it in the preferences. This was installed in my main rig which I actually work on, so I was surprised at how easy it was.

Warning though, shipping from China is murder. I ordered 2 cards and it cost me $50 in shipping at the cheapest option, so just be weary. Both cards were still cheaper than one 1060, so I still consider it a deal, but it pushed the budget a little.

Also the cards don't have any mounting, so they don't support themselves well. Luckily the one in my main rig is close to the bottom so I used some corks to lift it up, and my headless server that I plan to install these in horizontal so it shouldn't be a problem, but food for though. I see some screw holes in the card, so it might be possible to make your own mount.
