Weird that he uses RenderLayers. They are not called that way. However when you do compositing, the nodes still show render layer. Its making it all more confusing?!?!
PS groups is not what collections is now, that is one big misunderstanding. Collections is a work to expand the limited 20 layers we had. Groups is still groups and is related to object management it think. Where collections is related to scene management. One thing i dont understand is that duplicating a collection leaves you with the exact same objects, however i would think we could move objects different in this collection. To me this seems useless if it cant do that. I still find collections very confusing
Wow dragging it from one panel to the other though both in the outliner looks more like a bug. There should be a copy icon or a plus icon. The user does not see any difference dragging it in the same outliner or from one outliner to the other. That doesnt look like a good UX
this is just a preference for me, it just helps me keep the view of the collections beside the objects,
Also sounds like the way collections is still being developed.
Its indeed a great method i think! I already learned a lot more now. Im trying to update amaranth plugin from Pablo Vazquez. I need to transform the renderlayres to collections so i need to know all the in and outs.
I got everything working except this part. I also want to add back renderlayers in the panel like how it was. I dont find the current method handy to organise collections when doing rendering. THe old method was easier, better and easier to look at and understand it.
Ow it can be done in the same panel, using ctrl links it. But your method is quite easy to work faster perhaps
it's just a preference it just gives me two different views of the outlines beside each other, so the top one functions like the 20 layer buttons from before.
yeah I also have a problem with it being called Render Layers but this might change by the time the official 2.8 comes out.
I mean "view layers"
In composition its still Render Layers?! confusing 100%
Okay, sorry i thought Groups was still there, i see this has been taken out now. I did not yet know that. I thought that was still active. Now i understand the naming better. So it seems they have merged layers and groups into a big scene manager.
Confusing at first. but still pretty awesome, though Dupligroups or duplicollections does not seem to work the same way anymore.
but who knows what might change by the time 2.8 is out.
Okay, can you elaborate on that? I havent tested all of that yet.. Wonder what is different
actually, I am wrong, It does work the same way, it is just an instance of a group pretty much.
Quick question...
made a couple of layers to separate elements to be comped afterwards... now I am comping shot, with nodes... it all works great but the render time is twice that of normal, because it is still rendering the two layers... is there a structure to follow after render to fix this... unsure as well as far as where the passes live after your render... I quit the program after render, then reopened and could not find them thus having to re render.
cheers
