Here is a quick workflow for modeling good looking folds in cloth. It’s not easy to sculpt folds realistically without much practice, so modeling folds is still a good technique. You can use sculpting afterwards to smooth them out and add some additional imperfections.

I’d sculpt such folds instead of modelling them and then bake the result into a normal map.
Yeah, fair enough, but I think that’s a great clean technique if you just need a few creases and don’t want to bake normals :]
