In this Blender 2.8 tutorial, I'll show you how to export a mesh from Blender to Unreal. We'll briefly discuss collision models as well as materials. At the end of the tutorial you should be ready to use your blender models in Unreal 4.21.2.

  1. When I use it, it is erasing everything else I have in the origin or subfolder where I export too... The blend file, textures... ev erything... Is this normal?

      • Hi ! I've been afflicted by the same issue when exporting skeletal meshes, It just deletes what's at the file export location without warning. I'm doing some data recovery right now but If I could be of assistance in giving specific details I will, This plugin saved me a lot of time when I was cautious about the file paths I used for export.

        • Epic is currently developing their own Blender to Unreal solution which will evidently be greater than any and have continued official support. I would not waste any more time with anything else till its release sometime this year. Cheers.

  2. Hey there, I just tried to export a 3d mesh, and when I did it deleted everything in my local folder, wherever it is exporting to... and when I created a subfolder it kept doing it... It also has an error related to normals and tangents when importing into UE4... The only useful thing was the addition of the SM_ prefix... Otherwise I saw no big difference in doing a regular FBX export. Is there any?

I can try a bit more later on perhaps, and give you more details... I only set smoothing groups to faces so I don't get the "No smoothing groups found" when importing into Unreal, and also set the transforms to X Forward and Zup, which is how Unreal works... Thanks!

    • Hmmmm... well it sounds like you're doing everything correctly. I just confirmed that I could export as FBX in the same directory as my .blend and it didn't delete anything, it just created the FBX. I guess I'm curious about the mesh you're exporting?

Still, it shouldn't delete the files in the local folder. I really have no idea why that would happen.
