Screencast Keys Add-on now Supports Blender 2.8

Nutti writes:

The Add-on "Screencast Keys" has been developed by many developers. "Screencast Keys" is very useful add-on for the tutorial creator to display the status of Keyboard/Mouse. It continues to be improved by the developer. For example, new features are added to this add-on in version 2.x.

  • Display Operation executed last time
  • Change area/region/window to display status

Recently, the last active developer quits to develop this add-on. So, I ported this add-on to Blender 2.8 and released as version 3.0. I'm going to maintain this add-on from now, and accept any requests to improve this add-on.

This add-on works in both Blender 2.7x and Blender 2.8.

Lastly, I would like to say thanks for the original developer (Paulo Gomes, Bart Crouch, John E. Herrenyo, Gaia Clary, Pablo Vazquez, chromoly) of this add-on.

  1. Works great in 2.8! Awesome! Thank you for this awesome addon, will make the task of creating tutorials much easier :)

  2. I don't know other software that has this useful possibility of display -- without the use of other software -- the operations the user are doing. This indicates the vocation of Blender to be a communitary software, in the most profound and nobel meaning of the word "communitary".

  3. I would Like this to make Tutorials for other Software also, so it would bei great If I could Open Blender and minimize it and use other Apps and still have the Addon display what I type.

      @Marcus,

      that will not work i think. Since your working outside Blender, how will it register the keys being hit??? That is impossible. Better look for a desktop app which does the same. They are out there, just try google.

  5. I download the add and in the last version ov blender the addon not work, or not appare in the tab , the message tell me the plug is installeated, but don't have tab or shelf

  6. The fact that this works after maximizing and restoring a region amazes me. I'm writing a similar addon for my own project and how this addon handled the maximize/restore has enlightened me.

  7. In the future maybe can you make it so that it also screen captures (and puts the image into a notes document) or takes notes into a word document. So a user can watch the tutorial and refer to notes

  8. It is problematic for me that the screencast keys is vanishing when I swap to another workspace...like if I swap from Layout to Shading workspace.....then I need to disable > enable the add on again..and if I go back to Layout workspace I AGAIN have to disable > enable the screencast keys add on.
