Cool!
I have an important suggestion for the spot light.
It would be very nice if you could place the cone on a rectangular shape. In times of modern LED lighting there are more and more lights that have a rectangular beam shape where the angle has to be adjusted.
I have had only last such a case. You had to trick because it didn't work properly with an area light.
Thanks for the tutorial
Are you sure is a beam, the way lights work and with their reflector a light is almost 90-95% in a cone shape. I believe so at least :)
In my case, it was LED spotlight blocks. So much small LED´s in a long bar. The cone of light from this bar is rectangular. https://www.blendernation.com/2018/01/04/visualization-bridge-blender/
The possibility to switch the light cone from cone to rectangle has always existed in 3DS MAX. It would be nice if this function could also be installed in Blender 2.8.
I gasped outloud when you changed the area light to a circle, I wasn't even aware that feature was there. Awesome!
WOuld be nice if the spotlamp had also the option to adjust the softness. In Thea Render is use for sketchup we have this option. It really nice and fast to set spot lamps using that method
PS that area light is a bit buggy. Whn hovering over it, its state "ctrl translate" but nothing really happens. Also when you use the scaling it is not very clear if its still selecteed
