I've prepared a video summary of known cases of Blender usage for professional, big budget movie productions. Have a look :)

I'm a VFX artist, working as a compositor. At work, I try to use Blender whenever there's a chance. I also run a YouTube channel: VFX Geek, where I'd like to present this industry and it's history.

  1. I don't know about Next-Gen being comparable to Pixar - definitely comparable to Dreamworks and Illumination. But, when comparing output to budget, Tangent is definitely a winner.

If you're going to mention Next-Gen though, might as well mention Ozzy. Let's and maybe Plumiferos?

  2. The first time I really heard of Blender being used on a big stage was the pre vis for Spiderman 2. An animatic for the special effects, and maybe the whole movie (I can't remember) was put together in Blender.

    • I vaguely recall a TV piece on Pixar or Dreamworks using HP hardware and Blender for (rendering?) something. Aired between the late 90's-00's.
