Hey there,
I just released a new and improved version of my easy to use shader to create realistic clouds for Eevee in real-time. Try it out, it's free :)
Features:
- Easy to set up
- single clouds for hand placing
- generation of whole animated cloudscapes
- paintable cloud distribution
Just head over to BlenderArtists for more info and the download

looking amazing.. i will try this in near future.. can you please try same in cycles? I've already prepared with cycles setup... only stuck in clouds.
Thank you
I initially implemented it for cycles actually, then I dropped the project due to permanent CUDA errors.
It works quite well with small scenes but definitely not to populate a whole sky. However you can use it with cycles... in theory :D
Why not just change to Eevee? Isn't it nearly the same regarding shaders/materials? Then you could also use this in Cycles... Not sure about that but Cycles is becoming too old, can't see a reason to stay with it with Eevee coming up and surely it's probably not worth developing it for cycles anymore ;) There's no noise issues etc in eevee anymore and you don't have to render for hours just to get rid of them... You should update, not the addon creator ;)
BTW Thank you so much for making this free, I'll give it a shot right away <3
You can use most shaders in both engines, yes (also the cloud shader here).
Cycles is a path tracer that statistically approximates the actual behavior of light rays and Eevee is a real-time engine that tries to mimic that with smart drawbacks. But without actual path tracing real-time engines will never be as accurate. There is still a huge gap between real-time and pure path-tracers.
Cycles and Eevee both have their place in the industry and I will certainly keep using both for their specific field of use :)
I am not an expert in clouds, but they definitely look real, you did an amazing work.
+1 for the cycles support.
Thanks for the contribution !
I am far from an expert on clouds myself, haven't looked up in ages :D Thank you!
As I said, it works with cycles in moderate scale. You can see some cycles renders at the start of the thread.
Due to huge performance differences, I would advise you to use eevee though. You can combine both in compositing in specific cases.
Good work! Thank's a lot.
Thank you
This is astounding, great work and thanks
Very nice ! It's geometry, or VDB , or just texture ?
Thanks :) It's a fully procedural animated density texture with no simulation or modeling required!
