The Blender Foundation has redesigned the Blender Development Fund, which aims to ensure a stable, dependable future for Blender by raising enough funds to hire full-time Blender developers. The new set up now has several 'individual' donation levels as well as several corporate sponsoring options.
From the announcement:
Allowing continuity is the primary goal of the Blender Development Fund. We have defined two funding milestones that will allow to achieve this goal.
- 25K Euro/month: the main campaign target. With this budget the fund can support 5 full-timers, including a position for smaller projects.
- 50K Euro/month: the stretch goal. While this might seem an ambitious goal, this was the monthly budget during the Code Quest. We supported 10 full-timers, including a position for docs/videos and a position for smaller projects.
If the stretch goal of 50K euro per month is reached, Blender development will effectively be at the level of the 2.8 Code Quest - PERMANENTLY. This would be an incredible boost for Blender's future!
If you are already a supporter you'll receive an email asking you to move your subscription to the new platform. Supporters will be awarded badges, similar to the ones introduced earlier this week.
