Tutorial: Low Poly Assets from 3D Scans

1

3D enthusiast Loïc Norgeot shows us his Blender workflow for creating low poly models from downloadable 3D scanned models on Sketchfab.

Loïc writes:

I am Loïc, a French “lots-of-things enthusiast” as I like to describe myself, and recently I got into 3D as a hobby in parallel to my job as a research engineer in scientific computing, for which I am used to “scientific” 3D, especially in the fields of applied mathematics.

I have close-to-zero artistic skills, a bit more practical skills related to programming in general, and I really enjoy discovering and messing around with 3D techniques, mostly in Blender.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
