Here are some research i made during the tests phase of an abstract movie project. They were done using Ready software to create an animated texture and then mapped and tortured a little with blender to achieve this weird, bacteria looking animation.
Ready already have a large number of preset that you can record in image sequence easily. I heard that with vertex weight it can be done directly into blender but i didn't had the chance to try it yet.

I've been looking for this for a while. I have ready already but I would like to simulate the reactions directly inside blender. Where did you say you saw the mention of using vertex weights to do it?
Tissue Addon does exactly that, if you search for tissue reaction diffusion on Youtube you find a video by Alessandro Zomparelli, who made the Addon. Works nicely!
