Binaries for Meshroom Photogrammetry Software are now Available

2

You can now get started with the open source photogrammetry tool 'Meshroom' a bit more easily as they're providing binaries for Windows and Linux. Before running, make sure you have Cuda up and running - several steps of the 3D reconstruction process depend on it.

So far, I'm impressed with the results. I ran a simple test through it (see the result below) and compared the output to the commercial PhotoScan PRO and the results were almost identical. Photoscan gives you more control over the output, but Meshroom seems highly flexible and scriptable so perhaps more options will appear later.

If you have any issues getting it to work, check out this active Meshroom topic on Blender Artists.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
