Short Film: Lost

14

A wonderful short Blender production by Austin Koch.

An old dogs quiet night leads him to discover an unlikely friend who he must help get home.

I filmed this on my phone Samsung Galaxy s9 and used Blender for the 3d animation and camera tracking, Davinci Resolve 15 free version for editing, the Rode Video Mic Pro Plus for Foley sound. and Filmstro for the Music.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. The camera tracking settings were super simple, I just changed the camera sensor to the size of the Samsung Galaxy S9 (1/2.55), auto detected tracking points and let blender solve for key frame and focal length. It also helped that most the shots were tripod shots.

  2. Wow! Congratulations. Bravo - just goes to show what you can achieve with what you have at hand. Great night work. Curious if you shot "day for night" or were able to gather enough light with the Samsung s9?
