ImportLDraw is a Blender plug-in for importing LDraw file format models and parts.
I would like to write you about addon ImportLDraw. This addon can import models from Lego Designer (free). You must have lego library LDraw to correct work addon.
I am happy you can start play with lego bricks.
- Importer from Lego Designer to Blender (format .ldr) - follow the installation instructions to download the required parts library!
interresting but ldd is not updated by lego anymore
I use Mecabricks as you can export as DAE with advanced materials/bevels/etc. Plus you can even submit bricks/decals you want in it.
Can Mecabricks also import LDD and/or Stud.io models?
And how does the beveling work, I really need that? Could you give a link to a stie where it's explained?
Stud.io is based on LDraw. You can import LDD and LDraw in Mecarbicks. But this is limited by the existing bricks in the database which is growing constantly. The LDD and LDraw importers will be improved frequently to fix random position issues.
Hey Jovlem, Yes it can! The list of file types that can be imported are: .lxf .lxfml .ldr .mpd and .io The library of bricks and decals are constantly expanding too.
In the lite (free) version of the importer plugin for blender, there is no true bevel, however using a code in the plugin it will use a custom shading code to make the bevels look real.
In the paid version(€15), however, bevels are real. Many options are in the paid version such as surface imperfections, uneven surfaces, and colour variation, allowing almost fully realistic renders. The site also has unlimited model cloud storage so you can keep as many models as you make online.
The application will not be developed anymore but the database might be still updated.
So does this include the Bionicle / hero factory pieces? Several years ago I looked up a similar process of how to import lego models hoping for that, but was unable too. TY
