Blender VFX: Working in Scene Referred Space

Working in Scene Referred Space in a compositing or rendering environment computes the behavior of light in a color range that is not limited to our display, but rather – as the name implies – is relative to the scene.

There are two critical benefits to working this way. First, matching imported elements into a unified Scene Referred Space removes a lot of compositing guesswork and gets us away from simply “eyeballing” exposure and color matches.

In this post aimed at VFX artists working on a budget I share a method for capturing the dynamic range of a consumer level DSLR to let you bring video footage into compositing with CG in Scene Referred Space.
