Seven weeks into the Blender Code Quest, Pablo gives an overview of the current state of the project.

We just entered the second half of the Code Quest. Let's see how Blender 2.8 is doing as a whole. Can it open old files?

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Is there any plan to launch a second wave of support? I just got my blender rocket yesterday and I'm worried that many items on the checklist will be left on the table for another time.
I'm thinking a backup fund to allow for polishing time and maybe even a "tips" amount to go directly to a surplus that encourages participation. Or, frankly, just as a reward for a job well done.

Hi there. In old Softimage there was a funktion that gave the artist a posibility to wiew the scen thrue selected lamp like a real lightrigger in real word can do when they aiming spotlights.
Vould be realy nice to have in Blender :) Good Work! best regards

  3. Sadly all this new stuff in Blender 2.8 can be tested only by an elite of lucky users, since a couple of weeks all daily (linux, don't know for others os) builds crash with segmentation fault for the average users with (not that much) old graphic cards, and the coders don't accept bug reports at the moments. :)

  4. Elite ? No ! My computer is from 2008.

Regarding bugs they don’t allow public reports because blender is currently under heavy Dev and they focus on their in-house testing mainly while programming it.
