Here's a quick preview of real-time (sharp!) shadows in the new 2.8 Workbench Engine.
Jeroen gives a quick preview of a new feature in the Workbench engine: Sharp shadows! What is the Workbench? It's a fast, performance-focused engine used while working on the viewport in Blender 2.8. Cycles and EEVEE are for delivering pretty viewports and renders, Workbench is for speed but as you can see in the video: it can also look pretty...ish.
(*) Workbench Engine: "This is a complete engine designed for modeling. It could be a beautiful white canvas with floor shadows for modelers to work. It does not aim at realism, but at the right visualisation for a certain task, and especially to work perfect with the overlay engines." (see Blender 2.8 design document).

Thats Amazing.
So, in Blender, you can tell it to render animations/stills in the selected engine (cycles, BI, other) or do an OpenGL render.
I'm assuming in 2.8 that you can render in whichever 'Engine' you want such as the Workbench engine, or if they leave the Clay engine in there, etc.. Does anybody know if this is going to be the case?
I very much want to know this too.. in the draft proposal,if I understood it, it was stated that the Workbench engine would not be able to be used as an output render engine.. but I don't understand what the obstacles to that would be.
How to enable shadows in Workbench? Is this feature ready?
