Prism Pipeline released

Richard Frangenberg writes:

I released my Pipeline called Prism, which I developed over the last few years.

Prism is an artist-friendly Pipeline, mainly for animation and VFX projects, but it can help anyone who works within the CG industry. Prism does not only manage your scenefiles, exports and imports, but it also takes care of your playblasts, renderings and more.

Prism works with many industry standard tools out of the box. This includes Blender, Houdini, Maya, 3ds Max and Nuke.

And finally, Prism is free to use!

    • At the moment Nuke is the only supported 2d software, but I already got a few requests for Fusion. So it's only a matter of time until I'll add support for it.

      • joel Heethaar on

Have you also thought about adding aftereffects and premiere?
(Trying to get our whole tool pipeline in there haha)

        • Yes I thought about it (and also Photshop). Unfortunately they don't have Python support, which makes it a lot harder (but not impossible) to support them with Prism. At the moment this is one of many ideas for future features.

      • Thanks, Richard for this useful tool. I'm looking forward to the BMD Fusion support. Please update your Blenderartists link here in BlenderNation (below "Link" in this post) for more visibility.

  1. Interesting tool ! you could post it on blenderartist he needs more visibility and people could debate about the workflow ;-)

  2. I'm a newbie but I would like to understand what is this. is there a place where we can talk about it more in details ? thanks.

    • We can discuss it on blenderartists later, when my thread is online. For specific questions you can also write me a mail.

    • I'm sorry for that.
The error is at the very end of the installation, so you should see the Prism tools, when you start Blender. Only the tray icon in the Windows taskbar could not be installed.
      It looks like the folder:
C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup does not exist on your system. You could create it manually and try to install Prism again, this should fix the error.
I'll fix it in the next update.

    • thanks for the feedback!

The easiest way of switching to a recent project is from the "Options" menubar in ProjectBrowser or the StateManager. There is a "recent projects" list, which makes it really easy to switch between them. You can also change projects or create new ones in "Project" tab of the Prism settings, but i'm sure you already found this.

    • From the downloads page on the website you can download a .zip version of Prism. In there you can find every python script I wrote. You can examine the code before you execute the InstallPrism.bat file to install Prism. I didn't wrote any compiled C++ code, so it's already open source.
I'll promise you there is no spyware in there. I only want to share my Pipeline.

      • Thanks! Good work, means people can make special version for their work flow. Gimp and Krita use python, can replace Photoshop. People will love you.

        • Thanks, I'll take a look at Gimp and Krita, when I have a bit more time. It also depends on the donations, which features will be developed first.

  3. Great work! I was waiting for a pipeline tool to implement in our Blender workflow. I used OpenPipeline in a studio a few months ago and, since then, I was wondering if we could develop something for Blender. Glad that someone else did it :D

After my first test, I only miss the possibility to render in Cycles or Internal (like you could select between Mantra and Redshift in the tutorial) and importing the render to Blender's compositor as you can do it in Nuke.

Also, for having this tool for OpenSource-based pipeline, it'd be great to implement Natron too.

    Great tool, congratulations!
