BlenderNation Blocked in Russia?

53

I've been getting reports from Russian users about BlenderNation being blocked. Apparently this is part of the fallout of the Telegram block - the Russian government has thrown an IP block that's too wide and that has blocked millions of other sites too. There's nothing in my power to prevent this, other than suggesting you use a VPN for your internet access.

Russia's internet watchdog has blocked an estimated 16m IP addresses in a massive operation against the banned Telegram messaging app that could set a new precedent for Russian online censorship.

If you're in Russia and you're NOT affected by this, let us know! I'm curious to know how widespread this is.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

This day has come, goodbye comrades, we will remember Blendernathion as one of the best communities.

    go to hell RKN

    Big brother is watching you...

  2. instead of accusing the russian's federation,I would know the reasons. IP's blocking is a kind of operation that its done almost everywhere in the world. Do you think that in the democratic USA it does not happens ? It's interesting to know the reasons of this, keeping in consideration that the USA administration is trying to delegitimate the russian's way of life because they are scared.

  3. Apparently, such a massive blacklist broke the RKN's own infrastructure, so some addresses that are supposed to be banned are still functioning, and others are not. Apparently my ISP still allows access to Blendernation, although connection to Sketchfab does indeed time out, as is mentioned by others.

I turned off my VPN to post this comment, so I take this opportunity to say hi to comrade major.

  4. In Ufa, ufanet has access. I think this is a temporary misunderstanding so we are sliding into a kind of iron curtain a little. Do not worry, it sometimes happens on the territory of our country. Just need to wait until it falls apart.

  5. Ip-adress 104.27.183.114 is blocked. I get news reports from blendernation, but can not open site. I think that many users from Russia can not answer here without a VPN. Moscow, MGTS (the biggest provider) NOT working.

  6. Hello, I live in Yekaterinburg, but the site isn't blocked.

P.S telegram works perfectly well, even without a VPN, or a proxy server service)

They should unban the blendernation soon. If they wouldn't than i'm moving to the Canada, or Ukraine

  7. Moscow, MGTS. Stopped working for a long time before "Telegram war". Support say that the domain is not blocked, but ip is blocked. And the copyright owner must apply for RKN to unblock it. I do not know if this is all true. looks like general supports bullshit. may be not...
I am just started using vpn or TOR browser. works well.

  8. Russia, Stavropol and Grozniy (18.04.2018) Rostelecom - not blocked (yet?).
I hope Roscomnadzor will stop this soon. Their actions interfering with huge amount of sites and services. including mobile bank apps and cash registers!

    • Bullshit, the US has the Patriot act, they spy all citizens and I don't hear anyone calling the US a dictator state.
