This video on how to create your own sword in Blender was made to show the impact a model has on procedural texture depending on how the model is created. The geometry of the model can make a good procedural texture look awful if you don't know the pitfalls.
In part 1, which is now released, I will do the model of the sword.
In part 2, released in couple of weeks at the most,I will show how to do proper procedural texturing without using any UV unwrapping and I will also show how you avoid things like stretching a texture and how you really get "pointiness" to work on your model.

Hello JTORNHILL
Now I've finally recreated your sword tutorial and I love the simplicity of modeling a beautiful sword.
Especially your explanations are clear and easy to understand. If this is always the case with you, the Screecast keys are not necessary
;)
I'm burning to texturize the sword!
Thanks for the tutorial and
best regards from Germany
Thanks :D!
It always give me such a joy to see how people manage to have some time, sit down and really recreate what I do in the tutorials...especially since I often use at least twice the time compared to most. A sword creation tutorial is often described within 10-15 minutes on YouTube. However, I feel that even an "easy" thing like a sword deserves to be well explained so that a viewer not only can recreate it.. but also enhance, change and use the knowledge to their next own project. So...once again thanks for viewing and fun that you liked it :)!
