Modeling Zaha Hadid's Grand Rabat Theatre

This is a time lapse video of modeling Zaha Hadid's (ZHA) Grand Rabat Theatre with Blender. ZHA are well known for their use of Maya for conceptual architectural design. Subdivision poly modeling is not widely used in the architectural field (outside of a a dozen+ practices), yet the workflow offers fantastic opportunities, offering an organic and expressive path for unleashing initial ideas, compared to Nurbs modeling.

I have been inspired to demonstrate Blender's robust modeling capabilities, which can significantly aide the initial creative process, in a similar manner as Maya.

I am an architect, based in London and I have been using Blender since 2007. It is one of the essential tools that I use daily at my job to express design intent. Having seen the great potential that Blender has for architects and designers, I have become inspired to create tutorials that qucikly allow potential newcomers to be able to realise ideas.

    • Don't get disheartened, Zoheb! Just decide what you would like Blender to do for you, then find a relevant YouTube tutorial to help you with that task. The best way to learn is to have an end result that you really want to achieve. If you don't have an end result in mind, the learning seems less relevant and you won't learn as well - decide what you want to do, then do it! And learn along the way!

  1. I will show you the greatest tutorial on Blender. It's the mother of all tutorials: Use search on YouTube.
