The Raspberry Pi foundation have created tutorials to teach the basics of 3D animation to school children using Blender. These resources are aimed to be distributed through the 10000+ code clubs, worldwide, but they are also available to anyone else who wants to learn. Whilst we keenly await Blender 101, these tutorials show that you don't need children's toys or a simplified version of Blender to get kids making 3D animation!
There are 8 tutorials so far aimed at the 9-13 age group, the material uses simple English (every tutorial can be printed as well as watched), and very short videos (1-5 minutes). The philosophy here is to get children making as soon as possible and avoid the 20 minute intro videos that tell you how the interface works. The tutorials have been adapted from the 3Dami, University of Roehampton, B3D101 and Google CS4HS projects. The same projects are available in several languages on the b3d101.org website.
More tutorials coming soon.
You can see some example work from the materials on the @3Dami and @atmind Twitter feeds.

These look brilliant, because they are really simple, made for kids... No chance to get frustrated doing those :)
Cool, except if you're like me and have tried to run Blender on a Raspberry Pi 3, it doesn't work and I don't think ARM builds of version 2.4 exist.
Blender does work on Raspbian, but the version is a little out of date, 2.72 I think?

Many (most?) code clubs don't use the raspberry pi as a platform, but it would certainly be nice to get a newer version of Blender on the Pi. Any volunteers? And is it possible?
Here is the Blender Render Benchmark for Raspberry Pi 2.

Thanks Darryl, have you benchmarked it on the Pi 3? And do you know who built the 2.72 version for Rasbian?
Hi Peter,
I have not run any benchmark on the Raspberry Pi 3. In the near future, I might do a benchmark, If I rebuild my render farm setup.
I don't know who created the Blender 2.72 version for Raspbian.
well, its Pi day 3.14 and a new model, 3 B+, just came out that's a little more powerful. maybe it'll work a bit better on that.
Wow! Who's that on the right? why put a head scurf on a brown girl? Why can't a brown girl have her hair free?
All brown girls are not Muslims, and all Muslims are from regressive Islamists families. While in their own countries women are trying to fight the regressive religious dominance, why are you white people making 'normalizing' such regressive practice against women?
I guess it make you white folks feel very good about yourself as the brown ones look hideously backward.
Also remember, men who force girls to wear head scurf, see girls/women who are not wearing it as *sluts*. Please remember it when you promote such pictures next time.
Really? You don't recognize this as a symbol of diversity? This graphic is communicating that not only white boys are welcome to code, but also other backgrounds. In the other tutorials there is also a brown boy building a snowman with a blonde girl. A black boy riding a rocket and a red haired girl in front of a blockhouse. Are you still troubled? This website is definitely not promoting supression of muslims/girls/people of colour, but rather empowerment.
