I started freelancing in 2013. My first online gig was right from blenderartists’ paid section. Without knowing anything about freelancing in general, I started accepting all kinds of jobs.
In the process, I got ripped off, I earned money and I learned a lot of things too. Looking back, I wish I knew some things about freelancing in general.

If you’re unsure about how to draw up contracts you can check out https://www.docracy.com/ for templates and such for different situations. It takes a bit of effort get over the hurtle getting comfortable with contracts. If the other part seems to get nervous around the idea of drawing up or agreeing to a contract that should be a major red flag about the reliability of working with the client both in communication and more importantly, getting paid.
