  1. Nice overview! It would be nice to have some "features" availability comparision table, which would be updated as time goes on and more features are added to EEVEE. Cheers!

      • In the video, you seem to be conflating Cycles and Eevee. They are to different things. Cycles purpose is to render out images to a file/s. It is designed to look as realistic as possible, given the user input.

Eevee is designed to give a quick glance at what the models/shaders will look like, but it is meant to be tossed out every second. It is essentially a game render engine. You wouldn'g use it to make the next Monsters, Inc. You might use Cycles to do so.

Eevee is a replacement for Blenders current viewport. It isn't going to get all the features of Cycles, the devs will be aiming for feature parity with the old viewport functionality.

One area that should improve, however, is BGE. You will eventually use Eevee in BGE, so games will look much better.

        • I am aware of the difference, i think you missed the end of the video. Either way I have to disagree with some of what you said, because its purpose isn't what i was tackling in the video. The artist can use a tool however they wish. Also don't quote me on this but i remember reading somewhere that Blender Institute will do a short film in EEVEE, so you will see animations in there (plus the space renders is a good example which is in the video as well :)

          • I agree, even though EEVEE is very different from cycles, it can still be used as a render engine many things. Many times you don’t need the cycles features so EEVEE can be a major time saver.
