Blender 2.8 Code Quest Live Q&A with Ton Roosendaal

8

Pablo and Ton hosted a live session yesterday about the Blender Code Quest.

In order to be as transparent and clear as possible about the status and the scope of this project, Blender Institute has organised a live stream with Ton Roosendaal and Pablo Vazquez, during which it will be possible to interact in real time and get pretty much any question answered.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. 1031 Rockets are sold at this point. I think Ton is right with the 2000 Rockets will be sold prophecy.

It´s a good feeling that the community is showing their love :)

I allready bought my rocket. Get yours now :)

  2. Typical Ton,
    - Big bold ideas, too big to execute really without rescuing it by raising more money, intense in house sessions to make up time.
    - Moving on from the last iteration before things are well concluded.
    - Not really interested in engaging users feedback, just inconvenient noise, should be grateful recipients of benevolent dictatorship.
Not that I dislike Ton or 2.8 but just saying...

      • No, I'm not looking for reaction or trouble. I am making an honest observation.. as always.. I see a pattern in these endeavours of falling short, that's all.
I noticed even coders have said they considered they took on too much at one time with this 2.8 project after getting a bit jaded with a period mostly bug fixing... Still there is a lot of good stuff in the pipeline. I wouldn't diminish that. I just wish Ton would ease up his ambitions a little ;)

        • that's one point of view
I find it inspiring that they dream big
Kinda like Gimli's line "Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for !!?"
I wish I had some spare money now to buy my rocket, hopefully I will in spring
          A crisis is also chance
I guess this codequest is a good solution to overcome the obstacles.
I am really excited about 2.8 - so much usable for me there...

    • Ground Control to Major Buzzkill, we’ve picked up a variance between your current trajectory and and the planned route. Course correction: one niner eight two five oh five. Confirm. Over.

  3. Great discussion and exciting projects ! It is a real pleasure to witness this motivation, vision, humor and camaraderie..

The game engine mentioned by Ton at 52:05 is the amazing Armory Engine by @luboslenco ! http://armory3d.org/
