Once again, the Blender Foundation has been accepted by Google to participate in their Summer of Code educational sponsoring program. As one of 212 organizations, the BF will provide a mentorship program for students to help develop new areas of Blender. Google will start accepting proposals on March 12 - more news about how to apply will follow.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Great! It would be nice to get GPU utilisation to the smoke sim and after that to the fluidsim.
I'd really, really love a solid auto-retopology tool in the likes of 3D-Coat's Autopo or ZBrush's ZRemesher. It would really complete sculpting with Dyntopo.
For more info, here's an article I recently wrote about this:

Maybe this can be useful for you? If you are not familiar with Instant Meshes I highly recommend you check it out. It is capable, light weight, multi-platform, and FOSS. https://github.com/wjakob/instant-meshes
Thanks. I know Instant Meshes, and it's got an honourable mention in my article. Although it's fast and free, it generates too many triangle dead-ends amidst the quad-poly loops, resulting in artifacts when subdivided.
