Hi guys, I'm Jimmy Deface from Ireland. Full time musician, Part-time filmmaker and recent blenderphile.
I decided to take on the behemoth task of making the music video for our bands (Ape Rising) latest single entirely in blender, everything from "degreening" the source footage and rendering the frames to transparent pngs, to the setups of those png sequences on our "stage", camera animations, particle "explosions", right down to using the video seq editor to realign the rendered frames. Blender for the win!! 🙂
The flow of the video is as such due to the way we approached the scenes and rendering (which took some time).
So we worked through the video from the top thru to end, a section at a time in sequence, always allowing the paint to dry on the frames once they were rendered, we feel this gives the feeling of each section "needing" to one up the previous.
I'm not a proficient 3D guy by any standards but i pulled out all the stops (as well as a good few hairs) on this one, the full build time (not including the shoot) was about 75+hrs. In the end we're really happy with how it came out. it visualises our sound quite nicely. Glitches, noise and all 🙂
Check out aperising.com for more about the band.
Thanks for reading, We hope you enjoy it. J

Thank you Henrik. check out our website for more of the music side of things :)
Excellent work! It's really inspired, well done!
Thanks Matt.
Great stuff, Jimmy. Nice use of particles in the second half and a pretty good song too! I can see a lot of labour in this. How long did it take you?
Twas a measure not in days or weeks but frames....... only kidding , but seriously, if i hadn't had my editing partner Johno (Yellow) in the copilot seat it would never have been completed. We estimate anywhere between 50-100 hrs. Tweak, tweak (particle lifetimes/bounciness, directionality.......... so many microscopic parts in the second half. Glad you like it and cheers for the kind words
50-100 hours is pretty good going considering how many different parts there are in it. I really enjoyed it and hope you get the chance to do some more in the future.
I came to see a video for the cg, and completely wondered I've found a great band with a precious song
I think that Ape Rising has a new fan.
... Oh! Of course. The cg was awesome, completely sync with the music, very good in everything.
Sorry for my rusted english
