Google Expeditions: Festivals of the world

Since the end of the year is approaching, I'd like to share my latest work for Google Expeditions: Festivals of the World.Google asked us (Vida Systems) to make this collection of five VR panoramas illustration five of the traditional festivals around the world: Diwali, Aid El-Fïtr, dios de los muertos, Christmas, and the chinese new year.

You can see all five panoramas in your browser here. And if you own a Google Cardboard, you can see them in the Google Expedition app as well.

Although the scenes had to be put together very quickly, I'm proud of the result!

They were entirely modelled in Blender, and some of the texturing was made in Substance Painter. Some 3D scanned assets were used, especially from Mantissa (https://themantissa.net/) who provides great CC-0 assets and resources, in this case, fruits and trees.

This kind of project is made very easy thanks to Blender's latest features, especially denoising, which is a game changer since we render these panoramas at stereo 6k under a tight deadline.

Here are a few behind the scenes screenshots:

I'd like to give credit to Sarah Higman for her amazing writing on this project and to Mike Pan who is always the best supervisor.

Happy holidays to all, and happy blending!
