Figured I'd do a quick rundown on how to create a custom startup file. I now realize there are already a few videos on this, but maybe a new user watching my videos will find this and find it useful. If you have any suggestions for my startup file, please share!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. mine is a bit different. I have set up different screen for different tasks.. like animation, post processing etc.. I know they are there already by default, but I didn't quite like them.. and there were things I didn't use.. so I removed unnecessary things, and customized them to work better for me, and for my dual monitor setup.

also, as startup scene I have Blender Internal renderer set (I rarely use cycles).. with basic three point -lighting setup.. default cube I kept, because I think Blender just needs that to be there. oh, and I too have camera focus emptything..

  2. Does this not show the need for Startup that gives various option startup files, per user, per work type etc...?

I thinking particularly of window layouts
