Hi all,

I'm not a professional in CG, I'm an architect and I play with Blender during my leisure time for many years, I can rarely use it in my work.

As I had some time last 5 weeks, I made this animated short film based on an old reflexion.
It's also my first animated project, I never rigged something before, as I usually create fixed architectural rendering and illustration.

All made with Blender 2.79, rendered with Cycles in 300 samples thanks to the denoiser.

I hope you'll like it.

Architect I'm using Blender for 9 years but only during my free time, it's hard to integrate it into my work because it's open-source. It's an amazing soft with a great community.

  1. Sorry, but I don't see why Blender is a problem, as an open-source software, to use it and integrate it at work ...

I actually see that as an advantage.

    • Well, it's not what I mean. I do agree it should be an advantage, but for many people, specially in architectural firms, "Open-source" means "free and useless in professional work". Change takes time and there is still a long way to go...

      • 1) not true..plenty of big arch firms work with ope nsource products
        2) in the end arch firms need to produce 2D plans , they use CAD/BIM software for that, Blender can't do that anyway (yes I am an architect)

        • Blender can produce 2D and 3D plans as "standards" CAD/BIM software... it only needs to be systematized (a little or sometimes a lot...)

In order to make people believe that Blender is able to make almost everything I'm always happy to show them some results and examples. At least in my domain (Archviz).

@Charles I don't think that is a problem of time to change people mentality but a problem of show how with a happy and good attitude.

Most people doesn't like changes, but we can do that introducing blender with a good attitude.

          • mate, to draw plans with Blender is awful...Blender is not made for CAD...and BIM? I work for a major BIM software producer...Blender and BIM, sorry but no way...

          • Well... awful was with Autocad too for decades...

I know I'm exagerating with BIM :) but there are amazing people creating addons and surprising me since I know Blender adapting it for all kind of use... maybe now, maybe soon we could use it for BIM.

  2. what a great short film, I sugest you give up your day job, get your priorities right, this shows a talent that should be shared.
    My little board says 10/10.

  3. MAN THIS IS AWESOME STUFF!

Ok i have some suggestions concerning camera movement and final editing which could help with the story telling, also i find too many things happening at the same time in some shots which makes it difficult to read.

Anyway i'm also an architect, i don't know if it has anything to do but i enjoyed a lot watching it, congratulations.

    300 samples???? wow!!!

  4. Impressive amount of work, and so well done!
This is the level of Blender modeling I hope we can see more of
(as opposed to simplified toons), and I have to agree with Percy:
that you should seriously consider delegating your current
bread-and-butter activities, and show the World
what you really were born for!

  5. Thank you very much !
Tom, Percy, I take note of your comments, maybe one day who knows...
Lynchon, it's good to know, thank you.
Joey, yes it's very similar to your tutorial.

Thanks to BlenderNation for publishing !

  6. I really enjoyed this. I am a plant enthusiast and liked the detail. Laughed out loud a the the scoring of the slow motion jump across the river. Also liked the use of reflection in the helmet and the camera movement.

  7. I have been using Blender professionally for the last 8 years. I dumped my paid expensive apps for Blender. Show your video to your bosses. They should be able to be persuaded. Good job on the video.
