8 Weeks with Blender: History and Community

4

Renderosity Magazine author Ricky Grove is spending 30 minutes a day with Blender for 8 weeks to better understand Blender. In the fifth part of this series, he discusses his experiences with the Blender community, and they're truly heart warming.

Here are some quotes, be sure to read the full article!

"In the dozen years I've been covering computer graphics, I've worked with many support communities for 3D applications and hardware. The Blender community is the largest and most active of any other 3D community I've been a part of."

"Support for every level of Blender skill is wide-spread and uniformly friendly."

"In the 4 weeks I've been cramming in Blender, I've communicated in a number of forums and support chats with questions and problems. Not once was my situation treated as anything less than important. The general feel of the entire Blender community across the net is one of helping each other solve problems and learn to be a better Blender artist."

"In short, Blender and the Blender community have become so successful and fun because of the hard work and good will of the Blender community. And I think that is awesome."

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Thanks for mentioning the series, Bart. I'll be writing about Blender and Visual Effects next. I'm very psyched for the 2.8 release as I hope to create a short 2D film using Blender. Yay, Blender and it's community!

  2. Outstanding! So awesome to see long-time industry professionals have a positive experience with Blender 3D and the community.
