Hi!

Simple Renaming Panel 1.2 is out! It’s simple, fast and for free, so no reason not to have a look at it. The Simple Renaming Panel is a handy tool to rename multiple objects at once. Version 1.2 has a ton of new and improved features. Basically, the hole add-on has been overworked to be more powerful, simpler, faster and more responsive.

  • [NEW] Renaming works now in different modes: object, material, image texture, group, data and bone
  • [NEW] A simple and well-organized information panel lists which objects have been renamed and includes some additional information and warnings
  • [NEW] Added a match case checkbox has been added to search and replace
  • [NEW] Change the tool shelf category of the add-on in the preferences
  • [NEW] Not only suffixes, but also prefixes can be added by object type
  • [NEW] Surfaces, cameras, lights and bones have been added to the type suffix and prefix panel
  • [CHANGED] Suffix by type has been renamed to type suffix and prefix panel and is now part of the main panel
  • [CHANGED] Auto updater 1.0.3
  • [FIX] A lot of minor bugs have been fixed

Feel free to download it and write me what you think.

  1. I haven't trialed this out yet but

    THIS IS AWWWWESOME!

Would be seriously handy in the Blender browser so you can rename objects and images in there.

    Awesome work

  2. Hello, I love this addon it's been very convenient the few times I've used it.

That bein said, I am barely new to it (althouh I've used it sparse times over a year) and I have the impression you were able to rename several blendshapes at the same time through the "match" and "replace" system. Am I on the wrong here? Perhaps I was only able to do so with the bones of my rigs in the past and I'm just remembering it incorrectly.

Anyway, regardless of whether it supports blendshapes or not, it is a very convenient tool.

  3. Good to hear :)! Thank you.

There was never the feature to rename blendshapes. If I am not mistaking it should be easy to implement. I will probably try it out the next days.

    • I hope it is! I don't know python otherwise I'd help.

Anyway, thank you so much, that option would be a huge time saver for us to maintain blendshape organization (muscle systems and what not). We've lost a few hours of work just because halfway through we've had to rename everything one at the time.

I certainly will donate again when that update drops.

      • Hi Enrique,
I have just implemented the renaming of blendshapes. It was more complex to add than I anticipated, due to the way how blender handles the blendshape data internally. Currently only renaming for all blendshapes is supported. I have also added some other features, the biggest is the support for regular expressions. Simply download the master branch from github. I want to test it further before making a new release and upload it on gumroad.
You would do me a big favor by rating my addon on gumroad.

  4. Hey there! I have faced the following issue: while renaming multiple objects with one name, there is an automatic suffix which looks like name_001. Is it possible to change it to name_01 instead? Thanks!

    • Hi, This is currently not possible. What you could do is replace 00 with 0 in the search and replace area. It will soon be possible to define the number of leading zeros.

  5. Hi, would it be possible to have the sequential numbering of the objects respect the order in which they are selected?

So basically the first selected object would be _001 and the last selected object would be _040 or whatever.

For example; I have about 40 different cliff variations, but there are specific cliffs I'd like at the beginning of the numbering sequence because these assets are then being exported into Asset Manager which uses the name of the object for display ordering.

    Thanks for the great work!
