Isn't retopoflow built specifically for this and is free?
I get the impression it would be simpler to work with that
Yes, it's painful to see retopo done this slow, quite old-fashioned way. So many tools around for speeding up this chore aspect of 3D modeling. Even a couple for Blender.
Retopoflow isn't a free add-on. It's 71 dollars.
