Akhenaten 3D scanned and rendered in Blender

Eik Jagemann writes:

We had the opportunity to make several different 3D Scans of the rare bust of Akhenaten [an Egyptian Pharaoh - Bart] in the Museum August Kestner in Germany. For these we used different methods like an artec Eva-M structured light scanner as well as photogrammetry and RTI.

For the resulting renderings as well as the interactive Sketchfab animation we used Blender 2.79. The scientific examination of the highly detailed scans will be done in the next years also using Blender. This programme is a new and very important tool in the fairly new field of digital archaeology and impresses us every Day anew.

  1. Hi Eik, nice scan and some really interesting work on your website! I had the opportunity to work on scanning some Egyptian artefacts at my local university before they were sent on tour as part of a major exhibition, ‘Pharaoh’ starting at the Lokschuppen exhibition centre, Rosenheim, Germany in 2017. I also used Blender for the scan clean-up and creating a fictitious tomb exhibition space for a virtual tour to display them in.

this is a link to the tour if you are interested.
