Hey boys and girls in this mostly wonderful community.

During my time at PepeSchool I learned many many great things, but one of the small overlooked ones, that to me is a game changer is working with Alembic.

So here I depict in a simple way how to get a character or scene from maya to blender for rendering in cycles just as Ive done in several animations that you can find in my website www.pintamonos.cl

Now, if you're interested in knowing more, just drop me a line and I'll surely try to answer all your questions.

  1. really cool would be interesting apply inverse process and bring blender camera and animations to maya, because some time some of my clients want that I delivery the project in a .ma files....cheers

    • Hey Jeison,

the process is pretty much the same, select everything you need to bring to maya in blender, go file, export abc, tell it to export uv's and facesets that way you get materials slots over to maya, and then in maya import alembic.
      Super straight forward.

I could do a tutorial on that if It helps you.

  2. Really good to see others sharing this information. I had to figure out the whole pipeline on my own for a recent vfx job. A powerful and flexible workflow to have under one's belt!

    • Yeah!, I always have to figure out most of this stuff by myself after a lot of trial and error during production, that's why I make some of these tutorials, so I don't forget, and so I can give back to the community

  3. When I tried this recently certain meshes were popping back and forth to different spots. I couldn't figure out why. Anyone know what's causing this? It works fine when I import the alembic back into Maya. Only does it bringing it into Blender.

  4. Hummm... I must have an error in this work process ... Everything I do in Maya, when importing it in Blender, loses the detail of the mesh. In contrast, the same file in MODE, is perfect. I work with models for glTF format for web. And it looks shameful ... Is it a problem with I / O in Blender, or do I do something wrong?

  5. is there any way we can bring animation from maya to blender with texture ? i tried this proscess but couldn't get textures ? plz can anybody help
