Trailer: The Box

9

Dušan Kastelic from Slovenia just posted a wonderful (if slightly creepy) trailer called 'The Box'. Do you have any questions for him? Post them here and I'll do an interview with him!

Dušan writes:

Inside of the Box is full of miserable creatures.
One of them doesn’t belong there.
He’s thinking outside of the box…

You have probably heard of the phrase "To think outside of the box"?Well this is a film about such a box and the flat-headed creatures that live inside of it. Life in the Box is boring and miserable. Until one day when a new baby boy starts to grown in the middle of the Box! This baby is very different from other flat-headed inhabitants of the Box. He's happy, lively and curious. As the baby grows bigger and bigger, the flat-headed neighbours are becoming more and more annoyed with him. Until one day when he literally grows over their heads…

I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

This looks incredible! I love the dark tone and style of the characters.

Can you ask him how these types of short films get picked up by film festivals?
...and of course whether or not the full short film will be posted online? :) I would love to see the full film.

  2. I am so impressed with this animation. It has nothing to envy a big studio. To think that this level of artistry can be accomplished using Blender is very inspiring! Way to go.

I love the use of depth of field and lighting to convey mood.

I guess my question would be: How did you light the scene?

  3. Thank you all for your kind comments!
I'm not very known (or active) in Blender community. I hope this will soon change and you will be able to know more about my work in the interview for Blendernation.

For all of you which are interested to see the full film... Unfortunately for now I can't show you the full film because most of the film festivals doesn't accept films that are publicly available. So I suggest you to like Facebook page of the project, because I'm planning to promptly announce on which festivals "The Box" will be screened. I'm also planning to make "private YouTube screenings" for Facebook subscribers from time to time.
