Here's some news I'm rather proud to share: Sketchfab has just added support for 2D Ambient and 3D Positional sound to the platform. This is especially cool if you explore a scene in VR as it really adds to the experience. Free accounts can use 1 sound, while PRO accounts can use up to 5. If you're curious how people use it, check out this collection of projects that now use sound!
In addition, we've worked together with a very talented group of artists through the Artella collaboration platform to create a short VR movie called 'Lilly & Snout'.
My team mate Paul Chambers (his 'Paper Island' short was nominated for the 2016 Suzanne Awards) project-managed the entire thing and says:
Working on "Lily & Snout" was an incredible learning experience and we had to do it on a super-short timeline. Animating for VR introduces all kinds of concepts around where to place or anticipate the camera and how to lead the viewers eyes to the action.
The team was 50/50 Sketchfab/Artella and members of the Artella team are ex Disney, Pixar and Weta - a pretty powerful mix! This was also a multi-platform project - the characters and animation were done in Maya and Blender artist PaulsRage did all the environmental modeling and painting in Blender.
Enjoy the short below (and DO view it from a Cardboard viewer, Vive or Rift if you can!)

This is awesometastic!
Wow! What a simple yet powerful project! A lot of big names on the production team! Good to see Blender working along side Maya! This may very well be the future of story telling on the web! 2 thumbs up!
Pretty soon, Sketchfab will probably have viewer interactive function. Almost like a mini-game/Google Doodle kind of functionality.
Sketchfab sure has come a long way!
Oh, wow! I haven't heard of Artella before today, but just seeing Glen Keane's name associated with it gives me an immediate grasp at how top-tier this service's team is.
:D That's really cool!
Amazing work! Its interesting to see technology improve like this.
