In this quick video, we will be removing a wire with the help of an animated mask and our original footage. in order to achieve this effect. Normally you would want to use a green screen or some footage with a Clean plate, but since I don't have a green screen and I forgot to record a Clean plate we will have to work around it.
Here is the Example:
Tutorial:
I would loved to have had more time to refine this but I wanted to show you guys how I was able to Remove the wire in a quick and effective way. If I was working for a client or had more time I would go and add one or two more masks to refine the effect. Also the motion of the cup could be better so make sure you practice it a few times before shooting.
Anyway, Hopefully this Tutorial helped. Remember to post your results in the comments below and as always, Thanks for watching!..

Alternatively, could place a CG mug in the footage and have your actor pretend to make it hover, which would give more control over the movement of the mug. But then the trick would be animating a dummy version of the actor's hands to act as a mask over the mug, and matching the lighting of the original scene.
Te be honest the tutorial is more about wire removal then the actual levitation of the cup.. I would have gone CG with the cup or practiced our coordination more if it was for a client or if I had more time.
