Steam Loft - Filmic Render

8

Thomas Berard did some amazing renders of a Loft using Poliigon's textures and CMV. Filmic was used as well, and it is giving outstanding results! Which out of the three renders is your favorite?

  1. To me, they look gloomy and over sharpened, this in turn, makes this pics unnatural.

I'm not trying to be and asshole or a negative comment, it is just exactly what I personally think.
    good luck.

        1. That response refuted absolutely nothing about MAR10's comment. It was just an emotional retort. That's not helpful any.

        2. Something being "art" doesn't safeguard it from critique or criticism. On the contrary, art draws analysis.

        3. While I personally do say that not every showcase is someone out asking for critiques, and sometimes we can just enjoy the showcase for what it is, I don't think this commenter was particularly being rude or negative in the way they gave their critique here.

        4. Art exhibits our growth. Critiques are how we can improve. Though, even if this critique came unsolicited, they went out of their way to disclaim that it wasn't negative criticism. Trying to be constructive criticism.

Seems to me that if you personally think their criticism was unsolicited and sorta ruins the show for you, I'd just say so, instead of defending the nature of "art" itself from critique and criticism.

        5. I rather agree with Mar10's comment, though I'd personally save technical critiques for BlenderArtist or Artstation, places that are more focused on the technical review, and where such technical criticism are more fitting.

This place has always seemed to me as more general audience (though, I don't see any fixed rules here...). So, I agree with their analysis, but I agree with your sense of perhaps rather seeing critique somewhere else.

  2. I love the picture in every aspect except for the wall. The UV unwraping on the wall is really bad.
Congratulations and good luck in the next ones.

Impressive work! I still strugle with the night scenes. How as done the external light? To give this mood.
did you use some hdr. I tried some but none stay like this.
what do you suggest in terms of light?
    Thanks, and awsome workkk

    • Thanks, Marico. I used 2 different HDRIs for the night scene and the day scene. The buildings out the window are actual models which I made. For the day scene, I used a plain texture for the windows and in the night scene, I made textures which had an emission shader. If you are making a night scene, I suggest you spend some time tweaking the night HDRI to your likings and simulate city lights with randomly placed lights sources outside of the camera's perspective.
      I hope this helped :)
