About the Author
Bart Veldhuizen
I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

What's new? I skimmed through and everything seems to be dated back to 2015.
Am I right in saying that If the movies are open source, then you don't necessarily need to subscribe to blender cloud to access them? Yes, I know supporting blender is good, but $10 a month ($30 minimum) can be quite a lot in other countries.
I think it's so that they can keep running the site.
While I agree that it's open source and should be treated as such. That isn't quite how economics work.
Correct - you can get these assets for free too. Subscribing to the Blender Cloud ensures that future projects will happen too.
Where?
Follow the link in the article.
You said you can get them for free though. Is that the same link?
Ah sorry I can't remember. You'll have to google that yourself.
