Fantastic surrealistic work by sozap!

Hello,

This is a little animation project that I made for fun, being inspired by the great music of People Like Us.

I've made a little breakdown video too, if you'd like to see a bit how it's made.

I've started the animation two years ago. But having too much work, I never find the time to finish it until now. In the end, the work time spend making it was about 2/3 month. That doesn't include the rendering times and many 3D models that I took either from the web or in past projects. When seeing it two years later I'd like to re-do many things but I'm still very happy with the result.

For compositing I tried Natron that I found very nice to work with (except a few issues) , if you'd like to go further in compositing using FOSS software it's a very good tool alongside Blender.

That's all for now, if you have questions I'd be glad to answer them in the comments...

Thanks for watching !

    • Yeah! Very nice. Well done. Not very sure about the message but I don't think it matters . The. Compositing is excellent and the whole looks very polished.
Just curious about how you did the mushroom explosion... modelling + shapekeys + displace mod ?

      • Hello, you're right about the message :)
For the mushrooms it's 3 different objects, that are animated using an armature.

I used displace with a cloud texture . I'm also using an UVwarp modifier to make the UV slide and give a natural effect. Displace and texture are mapped into the UV's.

To complicate things, but also to model the mushroom more procedurally, each part is a subdivided plane that are shaped using several curve modifiers. Because the UV's needs to be very clean for the effect to work properly.
Now I think this could have been skipped and made simplier.
