Dani Epstein worked on a design for the NASA Space Poop Challenge (yep, it's a real issue if you spend time in a space suite!). The entry he worked on won third prize!
Blender was the tool of choice for a crammed week and a bit of designing technical illustrations for Hugo Shelley's NASA Space Poop Challenge entry.
Designing some of the parts was simple enough hard surface modelling, but other parts were really tricky, as they had to conform to the human anatomy, and knowing that they were going to be altered numerous times required the use of lattices, curve and other modifiers all in one mesh.
The fact that Blender allows modelling and rendering at the same time was a huge benefit as well.
Sadly much of the design is top secret, but there is a nice render and turntable in the blog about it here.
