Shader Forge: Gemstones & Ice

It’s always hard to get the reflection in gemstones right – the combination of translucency and transparency needs to be perfect to become convincing. CG Cookie’s latest Shader Forge with Kent Tramell tackles this subject.

The biggest challenge of creating gemstones in Blender: they have a fairly simple surface, but complex refraction happening underneath. In his short course (with first 2 lessons free) Kent Trammell explains how to emulate this quality, as well as analyze reference efficiently, implement absorption, add refractions, reflections and color.
The result: a material that can be easily adjusted for any kind of gemstone, crystal or even ice cubes.

The first lesson is free, a video of 44 seconds, how generous!
Ah you’re right. I somehow thought it was longer. I’ll remove that.
Hahaha, thanks Bart, … sorry, sometimes I’m too critical.
